Early Life, upbringing, and education

Daniel Dae Kim was born in Busan, South Korea. His mother’s name is Jung Kim. His father’s name is Doo-tae Kim he works as a doctor. Daniel Dae’s family moved from South Korea to the USA in 1969. They relocated to New York, where Daniel spent a large portion of his life. His family later moved to Easton, Bethlehem, and then finally to Pennsylvania.

When it comes to high school, Kim studied at Freedom High School. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Haverford College, from where he graduated with a double degree in theatre and political science in 1990. Later on, Kim joined NYU’s Graduate Acting Program to earn an MFA degree.

Daniel Dae Kim career

After graduating from NYU, Daniel Dae Kim made his acting debut in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as a treasury agent. He also starred in Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, Charmed, The Shield, Seinfeld, NYPD Blue, ER, Crusade, Angel, and 24. After this, Kim appeared in films like The Jackal, For Love of the Game, Hulk, and The Cave, where he had minor roles. The actor portrayed the role of a Shaolin monk in American Shaolin and had the role of a scientist in Spider-Man 2.

In 2004, Kim was cast in the ABC series Lost, where he played the role of Jin-Soo Kwon. This was his rise to fame, and the actor received several accolades for his portrayal of a Korean fisherman-turned-hitman. He starred in the show until Lost’s 2010 finale. The actor was honored with an AZN Asian Excellence Award, a Multicultural Prism Award, and a Vanguard Award from the Korean American Coalition. Likewise, he was named one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive” in 2005.

After Lost ended, Kim was cast as Chin Ho Kelly in the CBS reboot of Hawaii Five-0. He quit the show in 2017 due to salary disputes. Following this, Kim appeared in The Divergent Series: Insurgent. He also started working as a voice actor. He lent his voice for Johnny Gat in THQ’s Saints Row video game series, the voice for Rikimaru in the game Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, and the voice for Metron in the final two episodes of Justice League Unlimited.

Kim also founded the production company named 3AD. 3AD is currently producing the television series The Good Doctor. Kim is not just the show’s executive producer but has also played the role of Dr. Jackson Han during its second season.

Relationships and dating history

Daniel Dae Kim married Mia Kim on June 12, 1993. They welcomed their first child, Zander Kim, in July 1996. He also has another son named Jackson Kim.
